Healthcare professionals are in high demand in the Pittsburgh Region

The diverse, but aging population of the Pittsburgh Region is growing the healthcare industry. Our region has a larger healthcare sector than the rest of the United States, on average,* and the demand shows no signs of slowing. According to the Allegheny Conference on Community Development**, the University of Pittsburgh Medical Centre (UPMC) is the largest employer in the state, and the Allegheny Health Network is based here as well.

In our region, Medical Assistants are the second largest occupation in the healthcare industry (behind registered nurses), with nearly 5400 employed in 2014.**
